Gateways High School is happy to announce our students of the month for November. Every month GHS teachers nominate students whose accomplishments deserve public recognition. Three different organizations have honored our students this month: Register Guard, Springfield Times, and The Elks Club.
Our November Nominees are: Areli Mejia-German, Shirley Pollick, and Victoria Calkins
Areli was nominated by the Gateways High School Staff. She is being honored by the Springfield Times. The staff had this to share about Areli:
Areli came to Gateways High School 2 years ago from Springfield High. During her 2 years at Gateways she has completely turned around her attendance and academics. Areli is now passing all of her classes and attends school regularly. She is an extremely polite, courteous, and responsible young lady who is well liked by her peers. Areli always has a smile and positive words for those around her. She is quiet but very friendly and outgoing, always willing to help others out or be a positive friend. Areli not only cares for herself, but she also provides for and cares for her young son. It is Areli’s goal to finish high school, move on to college, and pursue a career in the medical field working at a hospital. Areli has really started to grow and blossom this year. It will be exciting to watch this growth continue as she completes her time in Gateways High School. I have no doubt that Areli will be successful at whatever she sets her mind to.
Shirley was nominated by the Gateways High School Staff. She is being honored by the Register Guard. The staff had this to share about Shirley:
Shirley has been a wonderful addition to Gateways High School. She has gone to school here for three years, and she has maintained good grades, great attendance this year, and a positive attitude. Shirley’s work ethic is outstanding; she balances well her school, her son, and other endeavors to improve her life. She is a highly motivated student, with an outstanding work ethic. She will be a success and a role model for other young mothers in our community.
Victoria was nominated by the Gateways Night School Staff. She is being honored by the Elks Club. The staff had this to share about Victoria:
Victoria is an articulate and intelligent student. It is her passion for learning that will lead her toward her goal of eventually studying Bio-Genetic Engineering. She was born in Springfield and has attended schools here before coming to Night School to get her GED. She is mature and responsible beyond her years in her desire to “get on with her life.” We appreciate her energy and dedication to her goals here at GHS Night School!
