Graduation

Dear Students and Families of the Class of 2020,

The year 2020 will be one we all remember for many years. This is especially true for you and your classmates. While the last two months have been difficult for you, with many of your long awaited and time-honored events cancelled, one thing that has not changed is our devotion to you, the Class of 2020. We are committed to ensuring you have cherished, unforgettable memories and traditions as we prepare to celebrate the conclusion of your K-12 journey and award you a High School Diploma.

One treasured memory is graduation. The graduation ceremony is important. Hearing your name called out and accepting your diploma as you walk across the stage, is a milestone and a memory to cherish forever. Our goal is to honor you, while adhering to our current health and safety protocols. We are committed to create an event that allows you to share meaningful, individual celebrations, and ultimately watch your classmates, speakers and the traditional commencement moments compiled into our 2020 Commencement Ceremony video.

Starting June 4 , we will hold individual celebratory opportunities for every senior. Seniors, you will come to  park across the street at the old Gateways Building on main street and walk across the street to the Wildish Theater wearing your cap and gown, along with up to four of your closest family members to attend your personal graduation ceremony. In the Wildish Theater, you will hear your name read aloud and walk across the stage to accept your diploma, with your closest family members in attendance. Then, you will be escorted to the lobby to share your favorite high school memory and take photos with your family.

To memorialize your experience and revisit it for years to come, the district has hired a local video production company to record each graduate receiving their diploma, and sharing memories, culminating in a full graduation commencement video that will be available on June 11, 2020 at 12:00 pm. Our school will begin production of each student’s individual celebration on June 4 .  Your specific date/time will be communicated to you by the end of this week.

We understand this is not what you had likely imagined when you thought about your graduation at the beginning of the school year. It is our sincerest desire, in light of the current pandemic and resulting protocols, to give you as much of the traditional commencement experience as possible, while maintaining a safe and healthy environment for all.

Class of 2020, the ending of this year did not play out the way anyone would have planned, and for that we are truly sorry. But through it all, you have shown us that you are resilient, resourceful, and an inspiring group of students. You have bright futures before you, and we are extremely proud of you!

Sincerely,

Lesa Haley
