At Our Schools
Hamlin Middle School will be holding its Summer Institute/STEAM Camp.
Bridge of the Gods Summer Academy (BOGSA) free summer program for Native American high school students. BOGSA is a free two-week residential summer academy with classes at UO and LCC. It gives students a chance to increase cultural awareness and increase academic success in a college environment. Space is limited.
Chifin Native Youth Center is offering a summer culture camp in August. Call 541-726-4301 for more information.

Learning Littles Field Trips

The Learning Littles/Pequeñines Encantados playgroup does not meet in the summer, but they do have field trips scheduled on Fridays. No pre-registration is required – just show up at the appointed time and place.

At the Springfield Public Library
Summer Reading Program: Kids can sign up for the Springfield Public Library‘s Summer Reading Program anytime and get a free book.
Kick-off for children 12 and under is on June 27 at 1 p.m. at the Fountain Plaza. There’s a lot going on for all ages this summer. More information and full summer calendar here.
The Summer Reading kickoff party for teens is on June 23 at City Hall.

STEM Festival at the Lane County Fair

If you’re going to the fair, don’t miss the STEM Festival in the Auditorium on Saturday, July 22, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Enjoy displays from Lane County participants of all ages, get hands on in the play areas and get your little ones fired up about all things science and technology.

UO SAIL Camps

UO’s Summer Academy to Inspire Learning (SAIL) Camps are free to incoming 9th-12th grade students. Priority is given to students who qualify for Free and Reduced Lunch. The program is run by volunteer UO faculty, with different opportunities available at each grade level. Camps run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday on the UO campus. Bus passes and lunch are also provided free of charge. Students in the program are also eligible for mentoring by college students on goal-setting, college prep and tutoring. All camps include: talks on college admissions and financial aid, museum and campus tours, campus lunches, and time to meet and talk with college students and professors. Visit sail.uoregon.edu/camps/apply/ for applications for new or returning students.


Safety Town at Mt. Vernon

Visit the Safety Town website for more information or to apply. (Application forms also available in Spanish.) Teens who would like to assist with the program can also visit this page to apply. You can also find Safety Town on Facebook at www.facebook.com/SpringfieldSafetyTown.



Summer Food Program

Starting on June 27 and running through August 26, kids ages 2-18 can get free lunch at sites throughout the city, provided by FOOD for Lane County and the USDA’s Summer Food Program. Lunch is offered daily from 12 and 1 p.m. at most sites.

Brattain House, 1030 G St.
Centennial Elementary, 1315 Aspen St.
Maple Elementary, 2109 J St.
Riverbend Elementary, 320 51st St.
Also, Guy Lee Park, next to Guy Lee Elementary; Douglas Gardens Park, next to Douglas Gardens Elementary; Page Park, next to Page Elementary; and Thurston Park, next to Thurston High School. See the website for several other Springfield locations, including the Springfield Library and Willamalane Park.

Willamalane’s Summer Playground Program
Willamalane offers a free, drop-in Summer Playground Program for kids entering grades 1–5 each summer. The sites coincide with many of the free FOOD for Lane County lunch sites.

 


Springfield Summer Reading Programlibrary logo
Kids can sign up for the Springfield Public Library‘s Summer Reading Program anytime and get a free book. Kick-off is on June 16 at 1 p.m. at the Fountain Plaza. There’s a lot going on for all ages this summer.

Summer Reading Spots
Kids can listen to story time and leave with a free book this summer, courtesy of the Summer Reading Spots, sponsored by the Springfield Public Library and the United Way.

Saturday Classes at Emerald Arts Center – not yet

Springfield’s Emerald Arts Center often offers free Saturday classes for students as well as summer art day camps. Check their website for more information.

Other Camps
The UO has a list of UO-affiliated summer camp opportunities. Also check with Nearby Nature, Science Factory, etc.
