Non School Days In May

Dear Parent or Guardian,

Please be advised that there will be NO SCHOOL on May 23 and May 24 due to teacher furloughs.

On our district academic calendar for this school year, we had indicated that if the district cancelled school due to snow days, we would have considered those days furlough days to avoid further loss of instructional time. May 23 and 24 were assigned as “provisional furlough days” if needed.

Since we had no snow days this year, we do need to use these dates for furloughs. Remember, there is no school on Monday, May 27, for the Memorial Day holiday.

Please also be aware that we are still in the process of determining the 2013-14 academic calendar. We will make that calendar available as soon as possible.

The Guy Lee School staff will soon begin the process of developing classroom placements for next year. The placement of students into individual classrooms is one of the important responsibilities belonging to all schools. The Guy Lee staff devotes a great deal of time and energy to this task so that a careful and thoughtful placement can be made for every student. Our goal is for every child to be in a supportive, challenging and successful environment. We know this is best accomplished when we create balanced, classroom groups.

Classroom placements are determined by a team of teachers who know your child well and who carefully consider his/her needs. The teachers, counselor, specialists and principal work with this team to consider the following factors:

. Classes of equal size

. A balance of boys and girls

. A balance of academic strengths

. A balance of social skills

. Consideration of students’ special learning needs

Parent Information

We recognize there may be times when parents wish to share specific needs, concerns or information regarding classroom placement. Please inform us about specific learning needs your child has.

Teachers and Specialists will be reading these comments as they work on classroom placement. This information will be considered along with the other placement factors in our effort to create balanced, teachable classroom groups. Please use this form and return it to the Guy Lee Office by Monday, June 6^thif you wish us to consider your information as we make classroom placements.

Farm To School Field Trip

Family Farm Field Trip

Please join Farm to School for a farm field trip for Guy Lee families

on Saturday June 15^th from 10:30am-12:30pm

We’ll meet at Guy Lee Elementary at 10:30am and walk to the FOOD for Lane County Youth Farm (it’s a short 10 minute walk from Guy Lee). We’ll tour the farm, do a “helping” task, visit the fruit and vegetable stand and enjoy a free snack. Participants will be provided with a $5 coupon to use at the farm stand and an additional coupon to take home.

Paseo de Familia

Por favor acompáñenos a un paseo familiar a visitar una granja el sábado, 15 de Junio de 10:30 AM a 12:30pm.

Nos reuniremos en la escuela primaria Guy Lee a las 10:30 AM, y caminaremos al Youth Farm, una granja de FOOD for Lane County (es una caminata corta de solo 10 minutos de Guy Lee). Haremos un recorrido de la granja, ayudaremos con una tarea, visitaremos el estante de ventas de frutas y verduras y disfrutaremos un bocadillo gratuito. Participantes recibirán un cupón de $5 para usar en el estante de ventas, y un cupón adicional para llevarse a casa.
