School closure/weather information

Posted by Thurston Elementary Office under Community Events

As we get closer to the cold, wintry days, we offer the following suggestions to help you know if there are changes to the school schedule or bus routes:

–Will there be school?  Our local news stations, as well as many radio stations, offer updates by 6:30 a.m. with closures and delays.  Please do not call the school.  Often, there is not a “warm body” in the office, and you will get more current information by listening to media.  Also, you may visit the district’s weather information page or the Flash Alert page for on-line information.

–Will my bus be on snow routes?  When road safety  is questionable, the district’s transportation team is out assessing safety well before most of us even think about rising!   If conditions warrant it, families who live at certain higher elevations may need to bring their child(ren) to a lower elevation (Main Street) to catch the bus. The district has developed snow routes that may be used if hazardous road conditions exist. If buses will be running snow routes it will be clearly communicated on the website as well as through local media. Snow routes are posted on the District’s Transportation website.
