Friday May 6th from 5pm-7:30pm is the 53rd Annual Walterville Carnival and we need your help! Our annual Carnival is a huge fundraiser for Walterville Elementary. Money raised through the Carnival goes to support the kids through the purchase of additional curriculum, technology, and educational field trips like this year’s all-school field trip to the Newport Aquarium!
In order for the Carnival to be a success, we really need your help. Games are what make the carnival so much fun, but in order to have those games we need volunteers to run them. Please forward this on to friends and family or high-school aged students looking for those extra volunteer hours.

We have a very fun event coming up at Walterville. Walterville’s PTO is putting on BINGO night with a silent auction. The event will be Friday, March 11th at 5:30. Papa’s Pizza will be here selling pizza for $5 per meal and bingo cards will be sold for $3 a card. Prizes will be given out for BINGO winners and a silent auction will be going on during the event.
The PTO is looking for volunteers for this event. They need help with set-up, running the prize table, and a fabulous bingo caller. If you are interested in volunteering please email Kathryn Johnson at firstname.lastname@example.org.

This is a reminder that Read-A-Thon packets are due back for their first check in on Monday, February 22. Please make sure that you have signed the envelope for all the units your student has read so far. Also, please help your child collect pledges over the weekend.

Calling all kindergarteners for the 2016-2017 school year. Walterville will be having a welcome and registration night Tuesday, March 8th from 6-7pm in the library. Students will go on a tour of the school and their new classroom, while parents receive information about the school and the kindergarten program. Students who will reach age 5 on or before Sept. 1 (born on or before Sept. 1, 2011) are eligible to enroll in kindergarten in our district for the 2016-17 school year. (Yes, that’s the class of 2029!) To register your student, you will need to show proof of the child’s age (either a birth certificate or hospital records that show date of birth), immunization records, proof of address, and be ready with emergency contact information.

It is time to start our first annual Read-A-Thon here at Walterville. Below is a list of important dates and the prizes that students can earn, as well as an explanation of what a “unit” is for each grade level.
Please help your child collect pledges and/or donations from loved ones, friends, and neighbors to help challenge him/her to reach his/her reading goal. The pledges will be per unit:
Kinders: 10 minutes= 1 unit
1st-2nd: 15 minutes= 1unit
3rd-5th: 20 minutes= 1 unit
Feb 12: Kick off Assembly/Packets go home
Feb 12-Feb 28: Students collect pledges/donations
Feb16-Feb 26: Students keep track of units read
Feb 22: Students return packets for a check in
Feb 26: The last day to earn units toward pledges
Feb 29: Student Packets are due with any money
March 4: Prize Assembly
Top Pledge/Donation Earner Per Class:
The 8 winners will get a field trip to Barnes and Noble Bookstore where
they will each receive a $15.00 gift card to spend on books. After the bookstore, the winners will get a treat at Dicky Yo’s.
Classroom with the Most Units Read:
The classroom that has the most units read over the two weeks will win a
pizza and rootbeer float party.
All participants who bring in pledges or donations will receive a bookmark
and a pencil
The battles will begin soon!!!!
Students in grades 3-5 will be competing against eachother in Walterville’s Battle of the Books next week. The battles will begin Tuesday, February 16th at 8:45 in the music room. They will continue throughout the day. The final battle will be Friday, February 19th at 9:30 in the gym. If you are looking for more resources please check out our library page! Good luck Wildcats!
It’s that again time for our annual wreath sale!!! These wreaths can be fantastic gifts or will look great on your front door!
Spring Creek Holly Farms, just up the road from the school, offers us wreaths for the holiday season. Our PTO earns money from this fundraiser to be able to provide fun and educational activities for our students and our community.
If you would like to order, please pick up an order form/send money to the Walterville Elem Office by November 20th.
Wreaths are available in 3 different sizes:
18″ wreath for $15
24″ wreath for $18
28″ wreath for $20
Add a red bow for $3, cedar accents for $1, and 3-pine cones for $1.
