While we honor all of our fabulous volunteers at Walterville School, we took a little time to give special respect to two of our volunteers, Sam Reed and Jan Hampton.
Sam was honored at the district board meeting on Monday for not only all the work she does with the PTO and in the classrooms, but also because she brings enrichment programs to our students right here in our community. Thank you so much Sam for all you do!
Jan Hampton won A Champion in Education (ACE) award last night in the volunteer category. This is what was said about him, “Jan Hampton inspires all students at Walterville School to reach their full potential….[He]is the epitome of all that we want and expect from our community. He is ever-present, always willing to lend a hand wherever it is need, non-judgmental, caring for all students, and an integral part of who we are at Walterville School.”
Thanks to each and every person in the Walterville Community that makes this school a wonderful place to teach and learn.

Thank you all for your support during our recent donation drive. Not only did our students meet their goal of $2,500.00, they surpassed that goal by a mile! Students raised a total of $4,166.82 and will be celebrating with a trip to Splash! in May! Way to go!

The Walterville PTO is sponsoring our second large fundraiser of the year. “Love Your School” is a direct donation fundraiser. Families and other community supporters are invited to simply donate what they can or wish to the PTO. 100% of the funds donated go directly to Walterville students! Students will be rewarded for the community effort with an extra special field trip to Splash! if our goals are met.

The kindergarten class of 2012-2013 is invited to come visit the Walterville School community during the week of March 12-15.
*Parents can set up observation times any morning of that week by calling the office at 541-744-6415 to schedule.
*On Wednesday, March 14th at 10:00 a.m. families are invited to visit the school and register their child for kindergarten. Staff, parents, and the principal will be available for any questions you may have about your child’s upcoming kindergarten experience. Please remember to bring proof for residence (utility bill), birth certificate, and immunization records.
*On Wednesday, March 14th at 5:30 p.m. prospective Walterville kindergarten parents are invited to meet with other Walterville parents and the school principal. This is also a good time for parents to register their students for school.

Walterville School wins two Springfield Education Grants. Library and Media specialist, Amy Page, applied for and was granted $3000 for new desk top computers. She will be using these computers for many things including student produced BookTubes.
Catherine Wiebe won a $500 award to purchase reading intervention materials.

The Harvest Party and Jack-O-Lantern Stroll was a huge success and we had an amazing turnout! After the party, we were able to donate 78 pumpkins to “Jack-O-Lanterns on Broadway” to benefit ShelterCare. For each carved pumpkin donated, ShelterCare sponsors gave a $5 donation to ShelterCare’s fight against homelessness in Lane County. That means Walterville School raised $390 for ShelterCare!
We’d like to send a big thank you to Herrick Farms for donating the pumpkins at a considerably reduced rate and to all those who carved the pumpkins: Mrs. Pratt’s class, Mrs. Orton’s class, McKenzie Stage Stop, McKenzie Fire and Rescue, McKenzie Valley Presbyterian Church, Walterville Grange, C & K Market, McKenzie Feed & Tackle, McKenzie Feed & Pet Supplies, McKenzie Disposal, McKenzie River Organic Farm, The White Family, Mathers Market, Mr. Underwood’s class (Thurston High School), and the Mirhosseyni Family.
Special thanks also go to C & K Market for donating the treat bags and to Dustin VanDerSommen for providing the delicious funnel cakes and donating part of the earnings to the Walterville PTO.
